Bradley Grant Fowler
Born February 23, 2012
6 lbs 10 oz, 20 in.
Here is the story, sorry I'll try to keep it the condensed version:
The week before my due date I had been doing everything to induce labor including but not limited to: walking around all day at work, running the stairs in our apt, jumping up and down, playing dance central on playstation, and sweet talking baby to come on out. However, I soon realized he was going to come on his terms when he was ready. I had been having irregular contractions for a week but I was convinced he was coming late. Wednesday night I was having the same feeling contractions I had been having so I figured they were just going to go away. As I laid in bed and caught my breath with each contraction Landon said, how about we time them?
5 minutes apart. Then 5 again. Then my water broke!
Landon had the gall to ask me "are you sure?" haha
Luckily we had packed a hospital bag and were all ready. We called our parents and other family members. Luckily with my sister being a labor and delivery nurse, I remained calm as she told me I wasn't in any hurry except for the fact that the contractions were going to come on hard fast. I got in the tub, landon ran around like chicken with his head cut off and made me laugh with his "baby's coming" dance around our bedroom.
I felt like a fool with water still gushing out of me and shoved a whole bath towel in my underwear and put a skirt on and got in the car. Landon was a little hyped up on adrenaline and had difficulty navigating the construction cones on the freeway, making me laugh and scaring me all at the same time. I felt surprisingly calm. We got checked in around 1 am and about 2 hours later I was able to get my epidural. That was the longest 2 hours of my life. Why anyone would choose to go through labor naturally is beyond my comprehension. I was able to sleep as my body progressed through the labor process.
Bradley's heartrate was being inconsistent and they assumed he had the cord around his neck. They gave me an "amnio" meaning they had to put water back up me to try and float the cord off his neck. I was progressing fast and by 6 am I was about ready to push. Then the doctor said he was sunny side up (meaning face up) and they wanted to turn him before I pushed. Needless to say, this little stunt by bradley allowed my sister and mother who jumped on a 6:45 am flight out of phoenix to make it just in time! After repositioning for about 3 hours we started pushing. 20 minutes later, he was here!
My recovery has been quick and easy and I have felt great. We are completely infatuated and can't be more in love. He is the most beautiful baby and it has been the most rewarding and amazing thing adding him to our family and home. Landon is the perfect father and has been so helpful to me. We have had so many family members help out and have been given so much support. So thank you to everyone!
